AI is Ferris Bueller
"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."
Peter Serzo

Ferris said it only once at the end of the movie, Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Laying on his bed looking at the camera he meant it as a reason to slow down and experience the moments in life. AI perfectly represents that line and we are his friend Cameron, "sick" and anxious, thinking about AI. We can represent a business or an individual. The Thomson Future of Professionals Report 2025 gives us insight to handling this and the framework is no different from what we have already experienced.
FIRST CAMERON
Cameron was anxious, fearful of what could go wrong, did not want to fail, worrying about repercussions. His coping mechanism was being "sick." Finally he felt inadequate to Ferris. Organizations can be a Cameron, we can be a Cameron. AI is Ferris.
How do we succeed in an AI dominant world when:
So many LLMs, which LLM should be utilized? When?
Where do I start?
There are new announcements weekly and many times daily I get overwhelmed.
When I learn one of them, it will be outdated only days later it feels.
I don't feel as if I can even take a vacation, I'll fall behind.
What if I pick the wrong platform and waste time, money, and credibility with my clients?
How do I trust outputs when I am ultimately responsible for accuracy, compliance, and advice?
What happens to my role, my team, my value, when AI can draft, analyze, and respond faster than I can think?
How do I balance experimentation with risk when regulators, clients, and partners expect certainty?
What does “good” even look like anymore when the baseline is shifting daily?
The critical scene was Cameron sitting in the passenger seat of his Dad's car, paralyzed. Not because the car couldn’t move, but because he couldn’t decide to move. That is where people and firms are today. The tools are there! We have the intelligence.
The Thomson Future of Professionals Report 2025 points directly at this tension. The firms that win are not the ones who wait for stability. They are the ones who build adaptability. They invest in skills, not just tools. They create environments where experimentation is governed, not avoided.
NOW FERRIS
Ferris did not replace Cameron. He unlocked him.
AI does the same thing when used correctly. It is not here to take your seat, it is here to sit beside you. It drafts, you decide. It analyzes, you interpret. It accelerates, you direct.
You create and it puts actions behind your ideas.
Ferris moved fast, but he was intentional. Every stop had a purpose. The parade. The museum. The restaurant. It looked chaotic, but it was orchestrated. That is what effective AI use looks like inside a firm. Not random prompts. Designed workflows.
Ferris also understood leverage. He didn’t do everything himself. He used tools, people, timing. AI is leverage.
THE FRAMEWORK
The report identifies the following for success:
Enterprises must have:
An AI Strategy that is clear and tangible.
Leadership that leads by example and aligns governance with AI vision.
Operations that supports the AI adaptability such as roles and skills, processes and workflows.
Individually, we have to take ownership, accountability and set personal goals linked to AI. No one is going to teach it to you. AI has changed the paradigm where the domain experienced individual that uses AI is BETTER than the IT person who wants to show you how to use it.
SUMMARY
AI is fast, life is fast.
The film is about a journey. Ferris convinces Cameron to join him and he actively assists Cameron in changing and overcoming his burdens, fears, and anxieties. Ferris augments Cameron showing him a better way and experiencing it with him. In his way, Ferris augmented what was already within Cameron. That is you and AI.
Be an AI-powered professional.
Now go home. Play with AI. One workflow. Go.
